Ball valve- the most popular valves that you need to know
WHAT IS A BALL VALVE?
Ball valve with ball , is a shut-off valve used in various installation parts to shut off water, air or other liquids. A ball valve can be designed as a 2-way or 3-way ball valve and consists of a body containing a ball with an opening. The big advantage of this type of valve is that it is leak-proof when the ball valve is closed. This is because the ball is pressed into a plastic ring that creates the leak-tightness. The ball valves can be made of different materials depending on their application. The ball valves can be made of PVC, brass, stainless steel, cast iron or another alloy. Ball valves can also be motorized driven by an air valve motor. Unlike a control valve, this movement is a rotational movement where that of a control valve is a linear movement.
Another option to operate ball valves is to provide them with a lever or butterfly handle to manually shut off a ball valve.
SHAPES OF THE BALL
The ball in the ball valve can have different shapes. It can contain an L bore, T bore or a control curve. Ball valves with a control curve are often used in HVAC installations to cool or heat installations. With a T-bore or L-bore a switch is often made in the water circuit. For example, when using a 3-way ball valve, the hot water circuit can be on one side and the cold water circuit on the other.
The pneumatic ball valve is supplied with an actuator and optical position indicator. Available in nickel-plated brass, stainless steel, plastic and high-pressure version, 2-way and 3-way and single or double-acting version. With the exception of the 3-way ball valve; you can select this with an L- or T-bore, where we have 3 options for a T-bore.
HOW DOES A BALL VALVE WORK?
A ball valve or ball valve contains a closing unit that can be manually, pneumatically or electrically operated. This ball valve ensures that a flow of liquid or gases can be closed. Inside the ball valve is a rotating ball that contains a bore or port in the center. When the valve is positioned so that the bore is aligned in the same direction as the pipeline, liquid or gas can flow through it. At a 90 degree turn angle, the bore is placed perpendicular to the path, meaning the valve is closed and fluid cannot pass.
COCLUSION
A ball valve is a valve that is partially or completely closed with a pierced globe (ball). Thanks to the sphere, the flow of a liquid or gas can only partially pass through or even stop completely. It just depends on whether the drilled open part or the whole part of the sphere is facing the pipe. The pierced sphere rotates on its axis perpendicular to the bore. In order for the valve to go from open to closed, the ball must be turned 90 degrees. The tap is a quick-to-operate valve because the tap is already fully closed or opened with a short quarter turn. Ball valves are therefore often used as a shut-off valve.
